Moody Skies & Tiny Nikes: A Salt Flats Session with the Sweetest NYC Fam

Okay, so technically July is my favorite time to shoot at the Salt Flats—give me that golden hour and summer glow all day. But there’s something about the cooler months that makes this place feel like a whole different world. The light this time of year hits differently, especially when there are clouds rolling in to act like nature’s softbox. It’s moodier, more dramatic, and honestly? Kinda perfect for families who want something unique.

When I got a booking request from this amazing family flying in from New York, I couldn’t believe it. They were out west on an adventure to celebrate their baby boy turning ONE (🥹), and I was lucky enough to be one of their stops. Like…how cool is that?

Mom looked effortlessly gorgeous in a floral above-the-knee dress with a white jacket that caught the breeze just right. Dad kept it classic with an off-white half-zip, jeans, and loafers—clean and simple, exactly what works out here. But the real style icon? Their little guy in a knit blue sweater (hello, blue eyes!), jeans, and the cutest tiny Nikes I’ve ever seen. He stole the whole show, obviously.

The session was relaxed and full of love—just how I like it. They laughed, snuggled, wandered, and let the mood of the flats do its thing. These are the kind of shoots I love: low-pressure, high-vibe, full of connection.

Thinking about your own Salt Flats session? I’m now booking for summer and fall! Whether you’re local or just passing through, I’d love to help you make some magic out here. Let’s create something unforgettable.
