Senior Session
Style Guide
This is a great question and plays a big role in how your photos turn out. To make it easy and fun, here are my top tips:
What do I wear to my shoot?
Hey Seniors!
First off, congrats on making it to your senior year! Whether you’re counting down the days or already getting sentimental, let’s make sure your senior photos are as iconic as you are. Here’s a guide to help you nail your look and feel confident in front of the camera!
Color Me Confident
When choosing colors, think about where your session will take place!
Desert Vibes (think golden hour magic): Earthy tones, warm neutrals, shades of rust, mustard, sage, and deep browns. These colors look amazing against sandy tones and the setting sun. Avoid neon—unless you’re trying to match a traffic cone.
Golf Course Glam (greens and blue skies): Rich jewel tones like emerald, navy, and burgundy, or soft pastels for a fresh, airy vibe. Skip the camo—you don’t want to blend into the fairway!
Salt Flats Chic (sunny vibes): Whites, creams, and soft pastels—anything that pops against the wide, open, and bright landscape. Ditch the busy patterns—they’ll compete with the stunning backdrop.
Style Essentials for Girls
Layers: Jackets, cardigans, and scarves can add dimension and movement. Plus, they’re perfect for those quick temperature changes!
Texture: Lace, denim, corduroy—anything that adds a little flair without being too wild. (We’re going for chic, not circus.)
Fitted, Not Tight: Your outfit should fit comfortably. You’ll look more relaxed if you’re not constantly adjusting.
Style Essentials for Boys
Classic Layers: Denim jackets, flannels, and lightweight hoodies. These add depth without feeling fussy.
Simple Textures: Chambray, corduroy, and henley shirts. Stay away from wild prints that might clash with the background.
Relaxed Fit: Slim, not skinny. Comfortable, not baggy. Think sharp but not suffocating.
Accessory 101
Statement Pieces for Girls: A bold necklace or a funky hat can elevate your look, but don’t go overboard. (One statement at a time, folks.)
Comfortable Shoes: Heels in the desert? Brave. But a comfy pair to walk around in between shots is a game changer.
Personal Touches: Whether it’s a class ring or a necklace from grandma, these small details make your photos more personal.
Accessories for Boys: Watches, leather bracelets, and clean sneakers. Keep it simple and purposeful.
Hair, Make-up & Grooming
Girls: Natural, but Elevated: You want to look like you—just a slightly more polished version. Think soft curls, a little glow, and lipstick that won’t disappear in the first five minutes.
Boys: Clean and Tidy: Fresh haircut a few days before the session (not the day of), clean shave or well-groomed facial hair. A little hair product to keep things in place.
Weather-Proofing: Bring hairspray for windy days and blotting papers for a little shine control. No one wants to look like they’ve been hiking in their formal wear.
Final Tips
Be You: The best accessory is your personality. Wear what makes you feel amazing!
Practice Makes Perfect: Try on your outfit, move around, take a few test selfies. You’ll thank yourself later.
Have Fun: It’s your time to shine! Don’t stress—your photographer (that’s me!) will make sure you look your best.
